Can I change my R22 system over to R410a?

This is a very common question that we get almost every day out in the field. The answer is no, R22 is considered a low pressure refrigerant system and R410a regulates on a much higher pressure. Simply put, the coils will not be able to handle the pressure. Leaks would be a common issue and you would spend more money than to just replace the whole system to begin with. R22 compressors can not and will not work with R410a refrigerant. R410a is a blended refrigerant, it would be like putting a gas/oil mixture into your car that only requires gasoline, or putting regular gas into a diesel engine, may run for temporary but will cause major issues in the near future.
